Add Insult to Injury

New York, NY. The New York Rangers have unexpectedly won against the top team in the Eastern Conference – and at the same time lost just as surprisingly. The tumultuous 6-3 win at the Washington Capitals was soon followed by devastation: Following the long-term absence of top defenseman Jacob Trouba, news broke that all-star forward Patrick Kane, goaltending legend Jonathan Quick and defensive forward Matt Martin are now also out for an extended period of time.
Jonathan Quick suffered a sore right knee on his second save just 59 seconds into the game and had to be replaced by starting goalie Igor Shesterkin. Matt Martin then suffered a fractured bone in his left hand at the start of the second period before Patrick Kane had to be carried off the ice with a torn right knee ligament at the start of the final period.
Quick is expected to miss about 14 days, Martin at least 22 days and Kane 33 days. Trouba’s time out is still estimated to be around 70 days. Minor leaguer and potential call-up candidate Alex Laferriere is also out for a significant amount of time. His right leg injury will sideline him for about 25 days.
